Halloween is coming and it’s a great time of year for babies and toddlers. There is so much to explore! Halloween offers young children the chance to learn about big, scary things in a safe way. There is also new language to explore and lots of bright, vibrant colours. My homemade Halloween cinnamon biscuits to bake with toddlers are another great way to celebrate the spooky season. So let’s get stuck in!

What do I need to make the biscuits?

I came up with recipe for these Halloween cinnamon biscuits when I was actually trying to bake gingerbread with my toddler. I realised we had run out of some of the ingredients! But instead of giving up, I improvised with demerara sugar and cinnamon. And you know what? They are delicious! The perfect spiced biscuit for this time of year. You are going to need your basic ingredients like butter, golden syrup, plain flour and bicarb. But most importantly you need your Halloween themed cookie cutters!

  • Rolling pin
  • Halloween Cookie Cutters
  • Baking Paper
  • Baking Tray

I bought these Halloween cutters from Amazon and they are brilliant. I have made several batches of Halloween biscuits, plus my son has enjoyed using them for playdough too! If you don’t have time to buy cutters, why not draw some basic Halloween shapes on baking paper and use it like a paper pattern? Just place the paper shape on top of the dough and cut around it. Voila! Halloween cinnamon biscuits!

Once you have gathered your baking bits, it’s time to get started! Keep reading for the ingredients list and instructions below.

  7.  Using a rolling pin, roll out the now cold dough until it is the desired thickness
  8. Now use your Halloween cookie cutters to cut out the shapes!

  • ½ tsp food colouring

  1. Sieve the icing sugar into a small bowl.
  2. Gradually add the water and keep stirring.
  3. Once the sugar and water mixture is a smooth consistency, you can add the food colouring.

How to decorate your biscuits

I loved making these Halloween cinnamon biscuits with my toddler. I split the icing into a few small bowls so we could decorate with multiple colours. The classic Halloween colours are fun to use – black, orange, purple and green. My toddler loved scooping the icing and blobbing it onto the biscuits. Sprinkles are his absolute favourite though! And if you can find them, some baking aisles have kits with candy eyes and ears to make little faces on your biscuits too.
