Hand puppets are a great way to keep your baby or toddler engaged. These puppets are interactive so your baby or toddler can get involved taking the pictures on and off. Perfect for practicing those all important fine motor skills! So here are my step-by-step instructions for making your very own hand puppets!

How to make Homemade Hand Puppets

Follow the steps below to make your Homemade Hand Puppets to use with counting rhymes. I bought a cheap laminator from Amazon and found the exfoliating gloves in my local supermarket. You could also try a bargain shop! I often use a guillotine to cut out my flashcards which makes it super fast. But you can stick to scissors if that’s what you have at home.

Equipment:

  • Scissors
  • Laminating Pouches
  • Laminator
  • Printer
  • Velcro Dots
  • Exfoliating gloves

Step 1: Choose your Printables

First you need to choose which type of hand puppet you want to make and print off the mini flashcards! Choose from my FREE printable flashcards below by clicking the links:

Step 2: Print and laminate

Once you have printed the mini flashcards, cut them out. Now you can laminate them by placing them carefully into your laminating pouches and running them through the laminator. Try not to let the sheet bend as it exits the laminator because you want your finished flashcards nice and flat.

Step 3: Cut out your laminated flashcards

Once your laminated flashcards are cool, cut them out. You can use scissors or a guillotine.

Step 4: Add Velcro to your mini flashcards

Once you have the mini flashcards cut out, add a Velcro dot to the back of each one. Now you can attach them to your gloves.

Make sure you round off the corners so they are safe for babies and toddlers to play with. You can do this with scissors or grab a corner hole punch on Amazon like the one I have used in the photo below.
